Tow Truck Operator

Job Description:

This is a part-time employee position and pay is 25% commission of the tow service with opportunity of growth from there. Experience is preferred, but not required. Training will be provided including the State of Illinois’ Traffic Incident Management (TIM) program and the Wreckmaster certification, if applicable. You will perform emergency road services: towing, vehicle lockouts, battery jumpstarts, winching, fuel delivery, accident recovery, abandoned vehicle recovery, specialty towing, and other related towing services. You agree to always present to the customer a professional self-image, and Belleville Towing and Recovery image through excellent service, safe operation, and timeliness. You’ll maintain truck and equipment in compliance with Local, State, Federal and Belleville Towing and Recovery guidelines. You’ll also need to maintain a Class D Driver’s License, DOT Medical Requirements, and random Drug Tests. Lastly, you must perform necessary documentation timely and correctly according to the procedures in effect.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive and operate tow trucks to transport stranded or disabled vehicles
  • Provide towing and roadside assistance in a safe, professional, and timely manner, free of accident, injury, and damage
  • Process customer payments for towing services
  • Provide courteous and professional service to customers
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks such as changing tires and jump-starting vehicles
  • Secure vehicles safely for transport
  • Complete paperwork and documentation accurately and timely
  • Maintain truck and equipment in a safe, clean and organized state, operating it in a safe and professional manner
  • Perform other duties, maintaining storage yard and shop, as requested
  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations

Job Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license with a consistently clean driving record. A CDL is preferred, but not required. If hired, there will be at minimum, an annual inquiry into your driving record.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Physically able to lift heavy objects over 50lbs.
  • Familiarity with basic mechanical tasks.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overnight.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must take and successfully pass a DOT medical examination
  • Must take and successfully pass pre-placement drug and alcohol tests. If hired, you must take and successfully pass future ongoing random drug and alcohol tests as required.
  • Must be willing to undergo any background check that the police department of any municipality that Belleville Towing and Recovery serves may require.
